Public-Private Partnerships in India: Strategic Levers for Economic Growth

In response to the World Bank’s April 2, 2024 announcement in its latest its latest bi-annual South Asia Development Update, which elevated India's FY25 economic growth forecast to 6.6% due to heightened investment growth, Insights International invites submissions for a special issue focusing on public-private partnerships (PPPs) in India. This update from the World Bank, estimating India’s FY24 growth rate at 7.5%, underscores the importance of robust services, industry growth, especially in construction and real estate, and highlights the significant role of PPPs in the economic landscape. The near term growth in India, is likely to come from government contracting and public investments. The aim of this special edition is to explore the intricacies of public private partnerships, regulations, and government contracting practices in India with a special focus on themes relating infrastructure, sustainability, use of frontier technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and the governance mechanisms that pay into defining the PPP ecosystems in these domains. 

Submission Guidelines

We invite researchers and practitioners to submit their work that not only deepens the understanding of PPPs in India but also offers actionable insights into their strategic development and economic impact.

  • Papers should be submitted in as close to final publication form as possible, with comprehensive research, data, and analysis.

  • Manuscripts must be written in English, adhering to a clear structure (recommended structure: abstract, introduction, methodology, findings, conclusion) and be understandable to lay readers, explaining any jargon used.

  • Word limit: 1000 to 2500 words

  • Follow the Chicago citation style for citations and references.

  • The draft submission deadline is May 2, 2024. All drafts will undergo a 1-month editorial process if accepted, with decisions communicated by May 15, 2024.

  8. Comparative analysis: Examination of regulatory systems, lessons learned, case studies and/or  best practices from 2 or more states.

  9. General Macro Patterns in Government Investments: Examination of broad patterns of government-led growth projects in India.

Publication and Dissemination:

This special issue aims to provide insightful, data-driven analysis on PPPs in India, targeting a diverse audience, including academics, industry professionals, and policymakers. The final papers will be published in the special edition of our journal in June 2024 and featured on the Insights International website (Insightsint.org), ensuring wide visibility and impact. The papers will also be sent out to a select group of thinktanks, government bodies, corporate groups, industry bodies, and non-profits.
